What is the Future of the Job Interview?

As companies continue to become more global, innovative collaboration tools will also continue to grow in popularity. These global businesses need collaboration tools to keep productivity levels high and maintain open communication with clients and colleagues from around the world. These tools also help with the hiring process.

Hiring new talent can be a daunting. However, this process sometimes becomes even more difficult for a global company. Geographically dispersed teams are very common in global companies, which means recruiters and hiring managers can sometimes be located miles away from a potential job candidate.

Instead of spending the time or money it would take to bring a candidate into the office for an interview, some companies have opted for phone interviews. Even though it’s easier to pick up a phone, it’s not quite as effective as meeting face-to-face.

Up to 93 percent of communication is non-verbal. If you solely rely on phone interviews, you can potentially miss out on a lot of important body language and facial expressions. As a result, more and more employers are beginning to use online meeting tools to conduct online job interviews.

Why are online job interviews becoming more popular for companies? The proof is in the numbers:

  • 74% of recruiters say video interviews make their jobs easier.
  • 88% of recruiters say online interviews save them money.
  • 90% of recruiters say video interviews reduce their time spent to fill positions.

And it’s not just companies who prefer video interviews. More than half (66%) of candidates prefer to use video during the interview process. They feel more comfortable and are able to relax because they can interview from the comfort of their own homes.

With online interviews, companies are no longer restrained by geographic limitations making it possible for companies to expand its options. Businesses can conduct face-to-face interviews with a greater number of candidates in a wide range of locations without leaving your office. Additionally, other decision makers can view recordings of the interview at their convenience.
